Youth in foster care ages 7-12 gather together with supportive, trauma-informed counselors to learn coping skills, experience self-discovery workshops like carpentry, theater and photography, enjoy nature as a healing tool, and make friends who are also in foster care. Nine, day-long camps are held monthly--April through December-- culminating in our annual Friendsgiving Celebration with the whole U1Sky community.
Friendsgiving
Friendsgiving is a holiday tradition of Under One Sky. Food is prepared and shared and the youth are once again celebrated. This gathering serves as a "family gathering" for those in foster care often giving them their first taste of a joyful holiday. Presentations and performances are enjoyed and the youth leave feeling connected and supported. We become a constant in their life and this event reminds them of all that we have done together over the past year. This event also provides closure of the year with the ability to celebrate how far each individual youth has come and all they have learned.
