Through Second Wind, youth who have graduated from foster care receive training, mentoring and compensation to educate and inspire adults who support children living in foster care.
Second Wind is a leadership mentoring program that meets regularly for youth ages 15-26 who have lived in foster care. With support from adult mentors, youth provide workshops in which they share their unique perspective with social workers, foster and adoptive parents and other child-care professionals. They speak on panels, present at conferences and attend other events in order to advocate for the need for foster and adoptive parents, raise awareness on behalf of those in foster care and educate and inspire the community. The youth also meet to support and mentor one another, share experiences and brainstorm new ways to advocate in the community. |
